Waves to Wine 2007: My Training Regime
For the past few years my training regime has been primarily geared towards weight lifting with (very) little emphasis on cardiovascular health. This has been fantastic for changing my body and getting me off the computer, but doesn't equate to being able to pedal for 16 hours over a weekend. I have nine weeks until I'm expected to ride 110+ miles, and as such I needed to dramatically revamp my workouts to handle that.
So in response, I've developed a blend of weights/cardio/saddle time to build up my endurance over the next nine weeks before the ride. Here is the new training regime I'll be following from (this past Sunday) to the weekend before the ride:
- Monday: Rest Day OR upper body weight training (primarily body weight exercises like pushups, pullups, crunches, hyper extensions focusing on higher reps) depending on energy levels / sleep patterns.
- Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday: 45min high intensity spin classes focusing primarily on cardiovascular health/endurance. Evenings may include brief rides to spots within Berkeley depending on energy.
- Friday: Rest day
- Saturday: Big ride of the week. Jamison has planned a series of rides ranging from 40 miles to 70 miles to help get me acquainted both with distance, group rides, and hill climbs. A+ to him :)
- Sunday: Rest Day OR a lighter / flat ride (Berkeley Marina? Pt Richmond? Mike's Bike's weekly rides?)
Once school starts I'll rotate things as necessary to adapt to my schedule. I may end up doing the longer ride Friday morning, spend Saturday studying, and take Sunday as a shorter ride day.
So there you have it. My revamped training schedule through September 28th.
